Mesa, Vista Welcomes You
Photo of Ojo Caliente

Mesa Vista Middle and High school welcomes you to the home of the Trojans! Located in Ojo Caliente, our school is part of the high desert of northern New Mexico--an area known for its fantastic spring waters. With moderate temperatures throughout the seasons, we’re in a great location to live and educate our students, and we’re glad to share it with you.

Our middle and high school is home to nearly 250 students. We’re fortunate to guarantee that students will receive the individualized attention needed to succeed. We have one teacher for every 12 students and we offer many enriching educational programs and sports teams for extra curricular participation. Please take time to become familiar with our school’s programs and events. Many of your questions will be answered as you learn about us. Don’t hesitate to call us either. We look forward to your involvement with your teenagers at Mesa Vista.

A Message from our Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

Greetings from Mesa Vista Middle and High School! My name is Tracie Phillips, and I feel honored to be the new principal at MVMS/HS. Although I am new to Mesa Vista, I am not new to education or New Mexico. I was born and raised in Freeport, Texas, a small coastal town approximately 50 miles south of Houston, and began my educational career there 27 years ago. Since that time, I have taught every grade, first through eighth, and served as a principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. In New Mexico, I served as the middle school principal in Dulce from 2003-2007, and later, as the high school principal in Hatch.

I am excited to be here, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming school year. I am familiarizing myself with the area, and what a beautiful area it is! I have always loved northern New Mexico, and I feel especially blessed to have the opportunity to live and work here. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I feel that I have the background and experience to help bring Mesa Vista MS/HS into the spotlight. However, I cannot do it alone. In these times of high stakes testing and accountability for all, it is, quite simply, an overwhelming responsibility, and I will need the support of staff, students, parents, and community members to make our school the best it can be.

I have high expectations for students, both academically and behaviorally. However, I also believe that we should all WANT to be here every day, and that cannot happen, unless we have a little fun along the way. As young adults, now is the time to learn that the equation for fun is: Acting and Thinking Responsibly=More Opportunities for Fun. However, it’s not all about my expectations for students; it’s also about my expectations for the staff of MVMS/HS, as well as myself. We all must challenge ourselves to give it 110% every day. I pledge to treat the students, staff, parents, and community members of Mesa Vista with respect and dignity, to honor your heritage and culture, and to do my best to provide the most rewarding educational experience possible for each of you. In return, I ask that you do the same for me. I am currently hard at work Monday-Thursday, so please do not hesitate to contact me at 505-583-2275 ext.104 if you have any questions and/or concerns. Remember, working together, we can make a difference!

Respectfully,

Tracie Phillips
